Step 5: Sampling / Grade Control

Intro

Rock Mapper allows to spatially record grade control samples & domains directly on the face photograph and LiDAR mesh scan and subsequently stores them in CSV file format (details here). Moreover, QAQC data can be entered as well and when sampling is finalised a Sampling Report (PDF) is automatically compiled for you.

Instructions

šŸ‘‰Ā Assign Domain to Sampling Grid

On theĀ Sampling Page, first select aĀ sampling domainĀ on the right and then assign it to the picture by filling the sampling grid or the LiDAR scan by filling the mesh. For the picture, the grid is automatically set up within the face outline at a resolution as chosen in theĀ settings. The area percentage values relative to total Total Area or Filled Area are automatically calculated and updated for each domain in real time. To change between Total Area and Filled Area percentage values, simply tap the Total Area / Filled Area caption.

ā„¹ļøĀ The default and recommended grid size for sampling domains on rock face photographs is 0.1m which results in 10x10cm grid squares.

āœ‹Ā Long-pressing a sampling domain will allow you to fill the whole grid or empty cells with a certain domain. It's recommended to first fill the sampling grid with the dominant domain and then assign 2nd and 3rd order domains to it. In the example below, you would first assign Standstone to the whole grid (by long pressing onto Sandstone) and then assign the Quartz and Gravel domains to the grid.

šŸ‘‰Ā Add Linear Sample Set

PressĀ New Sample Set > Linear Sample Set.

Choose anĀ Orientation,Ā MethodĀ and enterĀ NameĀ for the Linear Sample Set. Then pressĀ SaveĀ and tap to start drawing ALL linear samples onto the picture. You will see aĀ live-length valueĀ as you draw.

ā„¹ļøĀ Linear samples can only exist within the face outline. Any sample extending beyond the outline will be automatically cropped.

If orientationĀ AnyĀ was chosen, then the orientation of the first line sample segment will govern the orientation of subsequent line samples. Sample segment length values (from-to values) are automatically calculated and shown live while drawing based on the set scale bar.Ā

šŸ‘‰Ā Add Point Sample Set

PressĀ New Sample > Point Sample SetĀ and chooseĀ MethodĀ andĀ Name.

After pressing save, tap on the picture to add individual point samples to the point sample set.Ā Ā

ā„¹ļøĀ Point Sample Sets can be used to record Sludge Hole Samples. Set up a new Point Sample Set called Sludge. Then simply tap all collar points in the picture and subsequently assign Sample Attributes to them. We recommend to set up Sample Attributes such as SludgeAZI, SludgePlunge, SludgeLength and SludgeLith which covers all the information that's required for a sludge hole.Ā

šŸ‘‰Ā Add Sample QAQC Data

Duplicates, Blanks and Standards can be added to any linear sample set or point sample set through theĀ OptionsĀ menu.Ā

IDs for Blanks and Standards can be entered under Settings > Sampling > Sample QAQC.Ā

For Duplicates, after pressingĀ Add DuplicateĀ simply select the point sample or line sample interval in order to generate a Duplicate for it. It is then added to the sample list on the right with [D] symbol.Ā

ā„¹ļøĀ Duplicates, Blanks and Standards can be freely arranged in the list by long-pressing and then moving them to a different location.
