Rock Mapper 3.3

Release Date: 30 Jun 2025

Rock Mapper now comes with a 2-Point Georeferencing Feature.

  • 2-Point Georeferencing
We have added a new georeferencing method for LiDAR scans. Now LiDAR scans can be georeferenced using 2 points, which eliminates the need of a compass heading measurement and rotation of the scan as it's the case when using a single point.
FYI. Rock Mapper automatically generates levelled LiDAR scans by measuring the gravity vector while scanning. Therefore only two points are required to position a scan correctly, not three as you would generally need.Ā
The quality of the positioning is indicated by a RMSE that is automatically calculated after picking the second point.Ā
The new georeferencing workflow enables the possibility of 'daisy-chaining' subsequent LiDAR scans. A new LiDAR scan can now be georeferenced using shared reference points (e.g., on left wall and right wall) of a previous georeferenced scan. The new 'Pick on Scan' option with Split Screen view makes it a quick and easy process.Ā
ā— All georeferencing details are now summarised and saved in a new file calledĀ [FaceID]_georeferencing.csv
  • Compass Accuracy indicator
The magnetic compass of the iPad Pro can be influenced by various environmental factors. Now, Rock Mapper displays the compass accuracy as LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH to inform the user of any potential interference. If compass accuracy is LOW, then measured heading values shouldn't be used for georeferencing purposes.Ā
    ā—New column FACE_HEADING_ACCURACY added to [FaceID]_metadata.csv file.Ā
  • Bluetooth Remote Support
Capture LiDAR scans in unsupported ground with a 3m extension pole and bluetooth remote (new optional accessories aka Rock Mapper Extension Pole Kit). Start / stop LiDAR scans with the push of a physical button on the bluetooth remote without having to interact with the touch screen.Ā
  • Other Improvements & Changes
    - Formerly known Points renamed to Survey Points.Ā ā—App now uses and prioritisesĀ Survey_Points.csv file instead of Points.csv file. Points.csv file will still work, but we recommend to rename it Survey_Points.csv.Ā
    - Mapping and Sampling Report formatting beautifications
    - ā—[FaceID]_domains_3D.csv file adjusted to reduce file size
    - ā—[FaceID].json file adjusted to reduce file size
    - Rock Face Gallery page improvements
    - DXF file compatibility improvementsĀ

ā—Indicates new files or files where format / structure has changed
