Connect PC to Rock Mapper Cloud (optional)

    Intro

    Rock Mapper uses a dedicated Cloud Account for data exchange (not long term storage). After pressingĀ UploadĀ in the app, all new and changed Rock Faces are sent to the Rock Mapper Cloud. The number next to the Upload button indicates the number of Rock Faces that will be uploaded.Ā 


    In order to upload individual rock faces, please long press on the thumbnail and then choose āž”ļøĀ Upload. Alternatively, tap the cloud symbol in the upper right corner of the thumbnail to initiate an individual upload.Ā 


    To upload several selected Rock Faces, tap theĀ āž”ļøĀ Select button in the upper right, select Rock Faces by tapping on the thumbnail and then tap theĀ āž”ļøĀ Upload button in the lower left corner.Ā 



    You can directly connect your PC to the Rock Mapper Cloud Account using the options explained below. Any uploaded Rock Faces are then automatically forwarded to your computer.


    āœ‹Ā Requirements

    • Admin rights in order to install software on your PC / Mac
    • Internet connection
    • Rock Mapper subscription (Rock Mapper ID, Site ID, Password)



    There are 2 main options to connect your PC to the Rock Mapper cloud account

    1ļøāƒ£ -Ā not recommended: Map Network Drive

    2ļøāƒ£ -Ā recommended: Nextcloud Desktop Client



    ā„¹ļøĀ Important information

    For larger teams (of 5+ members) we recommend toĀ access the data via the browserĀ instead of connecting each member's PC to the Rock Mapper cloud for automatic data forwarding.Ā 



    Instructions

    Option 1: Map Network Drive (not recommended)

    Please follow these steps on your PC (running Windows 10):

    1. OpenĀ File Explorer
    2. Right-click onĀ This PC
    3. SelectĀ Add a network locationĀ 
    4. SelectĀ Next
    5. Choose a custom network location. PressĀ Next
    6. Enter the network address (based on server location, default = Australia):
      Australia |Ā https://cloud.rockmapper.net/remote.php/dav/files/[Rock_Mapper_ID]/
      USA | https://usa.rockmapper.net/remote.php/dav/files/[Rock_Mapper_ID]/
      Germany | https://ger.rockmapper.net/remote.php/dav/files/[Rock_Mapper_ID]/
      Latin America | https://latam.rockmapper.net/remote.php/dav/files/[Rock_Mapper_ID]/
      Africa | https://africa.rockmapper.net/remote.php/dav/files/[Rock_Mapper_ID]/

      Make sure to replace theĀ [Rock Mapper ID]Ā placeholder with your Rock Mapper ID in the above shown network address.

    7. Then pressĀ Next
    8. Keep the suggested name (cloud.rockmapper.netĀ |Ā usa.rockmapper.netĀ |Ā ger.rockmapper.net | latam.rockmapper.net | africa.rockmapper.net) and pressĀ Next
    9. Now enter yourĀ UsernameĀ (= Rock Mapper ID) andĀ Password
    10. ClickĀ OK.Ā 
    11. Now you should see a new (network) folder inĀ File ExplorerĀ calledĀ cloud.rockmapper.netĀ |Ā usa.rockmapper.netĀ |Ā ger.rockmapper.net

    ā„¹ļøĀ Note that the Rock Mapper Cloud Account can be connected to several computers. Just repeat the steps above on the computers you want to connect.




    Option 2 (recommended): Nextcloud Desktop Client

    šŸ‘‰Ā Step 1: Download Nextcloud

    šŸ‘‰Ā Step 2: Install Nextcloud and Connect to Rock Mapper Cloud
    • Follow the installation instructions and keep the default settings.


  • ChooseĀ Log in to your NextcloudĀ in order to connect to the Rock Mapper cloud

    • Enter theĀ server addressĀ based on your server location (provided to you by email with your user credentials) and pressĀ Next.

    Australia (default):Ā cloud.rockmapper.net
    United States of America:Ā usa.rockmapper.net
    Germany:Ā ger.rockmapper.net
    Latin America: latam.rockmapper.net
    Africa: africa.rockmapper.net


    • A browser window will open and ask you toĀ log inĀ to connect to your account. PressĀ Log inĀ button.

    • Enter yourĀ usernameĀ (= Rock Mapper ID) andĀ password. Then pressĀ Log in.

    • Now pressĀ Grant access.

    šŸ‘‰Ā Step 3: Adjust Sync Settings
    • Pick aĀ local folderĀ which Rock Mapper will be sending data to. We suggest to generate a new folder calledĀ Rock MapperĀ and then select it as yourĀ local folderĀ (as shown in screenshot below). Don't use a network folder as your local folder as this can lead to upload / download issues.
      Make sure to tickĀ Synchronize everything from server, then pressĀ ConnectĀ button.

    šŸ˜ŠĀ Congratulations.Ā You have successfully connected your PC to the Rock Mapper Cloud account. The Nextcloud client will be running in the background. Cloud-sync related information (as shown below) can be accessed via the Nextcloud iconĀ which is located in the Windows taskbarĀ at the lower right section of the screen.



    ā„¹ļøĀ Note that Rock Mapper can be connected to several computers. Just install the Nextcloud Desktop Client on all computers that you want to access the Rock Mapper Cloud from.
