How to import 3D channel samples into Leapfrog?

Since version 3.2, Rock Mapper supports Sampling & Grade Control on 3D LiDAR Mesh scans. Linear Sample Sets such as face channels are directly drawn onto a 3D LiDAR scan and saved as small drillholes in 3 CSV files.Ā

- Interval: [FaceID]_line_samples_3D.csv
- Collar: [FaceID]_line_samples_collar_3D.csv
- Survey: [FaceID]_line_samples_survey_3D.csv

These 3 files are be imported into the drillhole / grade control database in Leapfrog Geo by right clicking on the Drillhole folder and then selecting Import Drillholes.Ā

ā„¹ļøĀ We suggest to have two separate drillhole databases in Leapfrog Geo. One for exploration / diamond drillholes and another one for channel samples (face sampling).Ā

Please note that the sampling data might include Duplicates, Standards and Blanks. It's recommended to ignore them after importing the CSV files, as shown in the screenshot below.
If value for field TYPE is Duplicate, Standard or Blank, then ignore rows.Ā

Based on the default desurveying method used in Leapfrog Geo, there might be a misalignment between the imported LiDAR scan mesh and the associated channel samples (see image below). To fix this issue, please make sure to tickĀ trenchĀ for the drillhole / channel in the collar table. It will then use the raw tangent algorithm and the sampling data will perfectly fit. More details on Leapfrog's desurveying options can be found here.

Misalignment due to default spherical arc approximation desurveying method used by Leapfrog Geo.

After changing drillhole / channel to type trench. Leapfrog then uses the raw tangent desurveying algorithm and the channel samples perefectly align with the LiDAR scan.Ā

😊 Big thanks to Jason for providing some of the screenshots in this article.
