How to open LiDAR Mesh Scans in Micromine Origin?

    Intro

    Rock Mapper allows to generateĀ 3D photorealistic textured meshesĀ using the iPad Pro's built-in LiDAR sensor and dual camera array. These files are stored in OBJ (+ MTL, JPG) format and can be opened with most 3D modelling packages such as Micromine Origin / Vizex.Ā 


    Workflow

    With default settings, black 'texture seam lines' are visible when opening these files in Micromine / Vizex.Ā 
    To resolve this issue and to get best visualisation results, following 3 settings should be adjusted:

    1. Adjust Smoothing

    Set Smoothing to minimum and the black 'texture seam lines' will disappear.

    2. Adjust Lighting

    Use the headlight settings (inĀ Display ribbon menu) and set Shininess to minimum.Ā 

    3. Set Perspective

    Use perspective mode which gives a more 'realistic' impression when rotating the 3D textured mesh.
