What light should I use to take pictures underground?

In order to capture high quality rock face photographs it is important to use powerful and proper LED lights with following characteristics:

  • Light output of at least 1,500 lumen
  • Large light beam angle (no spotlight with a bright spot in the centre such as a miner's headlamp)
  • Rugged, waterproof & portable
  • Battery powered (rechargeable)
  • Battery life of at least 30min (at full brightness)

Here are 2 lights that have proven to work very well:

✋ For LiDAR scanning you'll require proper lighting. It's recommended to use a light source that is directly mounted to the iPad Pro such as our custom-designed Dual LED light array which is part of the Rock Mapper Hardware Package.

ℹ️ Proper lighting is also a massive advantage when it comes to geological/structural/geotechnical mapping and therefore highly recommended. It's easier to make good observations on a well lit rock face or rock wall.
