Intro
Rock Mapper saves georeferenced face photographs & LiDAR mesh scans as textured meshes. A textured mesh consists of 3 files:
- 3D Mesh (OBJ)
- Texture (JPG)
- Material Library (MTL)
ℹ️ All 3 files must share the same file name and need to be located in the same folder.
Instructions
👉 1. Setup
Make sure that faces have been georeferenced in Rock Mapper. Only if they are fully georeferenced, Rock Mapper will provide OBJ and MTL files for rock face photographs. Otherwise you will only find the JPG inside the Rock Face ZIP File.
LiDAR mesh scans are always saved as OBJ + JPG + MTL, no matter if they have been fully georeferenced or not.
Copy the .JPG, .MTL and .OBJ files for the face into the Vulcan work area.
👉 2. Import
Open the Vulcan work area in Vulcan version 2033.3 or above.
In Vulcan go to File > Import.
Select Wavefront OBJ > Design Strings/Triangulations (OBJ) and press OK.
Select the OBJ files and click the arrow to copy it over to the Path side.
Make sure file type is selected as OBJ and tick on the Create alternative image triangulation box.
Then press OK.
This creates two .00t files and an .ireg file for each face.
👉 3. Visualise
Navigate to your triangulations in Vulcan and select the _objimage.00t files for the face that you want to view and load them in.
😊 Done. Your rock face photographs OR LiDAR mesh scans should now be visible in Vulcan.
